Scrotal skin absorbs substances at up to 40× the rate of forearm skin. Anti-wrinkle finishes in conventional underwear commonly use formaldehyde-releasing resins — a known carcinogen per IARC and the NTP. Phthalates in synthetic dyes can mimic and block hormone signals.

Essential Seams eliminates all of it.

The Science

Your underwear is the closest thing to your body. What's in it matters.

Conventional underwear is loaded with chemicals your body never signed up for. Here's what the research says — and why we built Essential Seams.

40×
More absorbent than forearm skin — scrotal skin takes in whatever it contacts
60%+
Synthetic content in most conventional men's underwear — polyester, nylon, spandex
0
Harmful substances detected in OEKO-TEX certified textiles across 100+ parameters
100%
GOTS-certified organic cotton — verified from field to finished garment

Formaldehyde

Most underwear is finished with it

Wrinkle-resistant and moisture-wicking finishes in conventional fabrics commonly use formaldehyde-releasing resins. The IARC and the NTP both classify formaldehyde as a known human carcinogen. When your underwear is the fabric touching your most absorptive skin all day, that's a problem.

Endocrine Disruption

Synthetic dyes and hormone signals

Phthalates found in many synthetic dyes can mimic and block hormones. Studies have linked phthalate exposure to lower testosterone, reduced sperm quality, and fertility issues in men. The genital area is among the highest-absorption skin on the body — making direct textile contact the most direct route of exposure.
